The Four
Examination Skills & The Ten
Classical Questions
 |
Workshop
with Niki H. Bilton
We will
cultivate the mastery
of the Four Examination
Skills, to see,
to hear/smell,
to palpate and
to inquire, leading
to greater efficacy
of diagnosis and
treatment assessment.
The Ten Classical
Questions inquire
into the physiological
functioning of
the twelve officials
and their condition
of health or dysfunction.
Emphasis is on
cultivating these
skills in reference
to the three levels
of body, mind and
spirit.
This
will be a review
of classical theory
from the Nei-Jing
and Nan-Jing, followed
by lively experiential
exercises, interactive
exploration, practice
and discussion
of these themes.
Time will be set
aside for two periods
of open questions
on any topic. |

“The yinyang of the four seasons
is the root and trunk
of the 10,000 beings. For this
reason, the saints
in spring
and summer maintain the yang, in
autumn and winter maintain
the yin.” Suwen Chapter Two
This event will focus on
developing our understanding
of how Wood, Fire and Earth
CFs can uniquely manifest in
health in spring, in summer,
in fall, in winter and in the
transitions. This knowing-how
is a precursor to effectively
treating these elements throughout
the year, harmonizing the spirits
with the qi of the season.
Common pathologies from external,
internal and miscellaneous
causes of disease will be considered
from a seasonal perspective,
as well as simple preventative
measures useful for patient
education. The workshop will draw on
classical theory to enhance
clinical understanding, with
an experiential component to
immediately widen practical
skills and application. Pulse
indications, point selection/combinations
and treatment applications
will be discussed in detail.
